One dead, another arrested after crash involving stolen vehicle

A stolen vehicle that was allegedly trying to escape police in London crashed into another overnight, killing one person.

Police located the stolen vehicle in the area of ​​King Edward and Russell Avenues around 2.20am on Wednesday. The vehicle was lifted from the hands of the police. Police later located it not far from South Street and Thompson Road in Adelaide, where it collided with another vehicle.

A person in an “unrelated citizen’s vehicle” was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A woman believed to be involved in the incident has been arrested, but no charges have been laid so far.

Due to police involvement prior to the crash, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified and its mandate has been invoked. The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates all incidents involving police officers that result in death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

The nearby Princess Elizabeth Public School has closed for in-person learning for the day as a precaution. In a statement, the Thames Valley School Board said students will be able to carry out independent learning on digital platforms in classrooms.
