Person found dead was a Maple Ridge homeless man

Police have released the identity of a homeless man from Maple Ridge who was found dead near the Golden Ears Bridge in Pitt Meadows on Monday, April 17.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team identified the victim as Randy Semotiuk, 31, of Maple Ridge.

A community partner told Ridge Meadows RCMP that Semotiuk had not been seen for several days. As this was deemed anomalous, the Ridge Meadows RCMP, who knew the individual, conducted a patrol to try and locate him. Tragically, around noon, police found the man’s body on the 19800-block of Lougheed Highway in Pitt Meadows. He was in a wooded area west of the Golden Ears Bridge, near the south entrance of the Meadowtown shopping centre.

The injuries observed by members led them to believe the man was a homicide victim, and IHIT launched an investigation.

“We’re at the very beginning of this investigation,” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti. “Investigators will remain in the area throughout the week seeking witnesses and gathering evidence as we work to establish a timeline of events leading up to Mr Semotiuk’s untimely death.”

IHIT continues to work closely with the Ridge Meadows RCMP, BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS).

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email [email protected].

This is the second death found in Maple Ridge so far this year. Surinderjit Singh, 55, of Maple Ridge, was found on March 4 on 122nd Avenue.
