SafePoint ready to open after receiving Health Canada approval

The SafePoint Consumer and Treatment website will be open to customers on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

Windsor-Essex County Health received approval from Health Canada Friday to operate.

Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare and its team of mental health and addiction specialists will be in charge of the day-to-day operation of the site.

“No other CTS in the province operates at such a high level of professionalism in terms of the services we provide to our patients. We think this is the best outcome we can possibly have for Windsor-Essex,” said Windsor Essex Ken Blanchette, executive director of the Texas County Health Department, said.

SafePoint will provide a variety of services, including distribution of harm reduction equipment, drug screening services and connections to other healthcare providers and social services.

“We’re trying to create a very safe, judgment-free place where they can get these full-service services to come out of the addiction crisis they’re in,” Blanchett said.

Area residents and businesses can visit the site this Thursday and Friday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The consumer site is open 7 days a week from 10am to 6pm
