Shell acknowledges lack of details after unit upset

Shell apologized for the lack of communication after a unit was reported to be out of order on Wednesday morning.

The Sarnia Manufacturing Center in Corunna sent out a community awareness notice via Sarnia-Lambton Alerts around 6 a.m. about the situation, but did not include further details.

“We recognize that this may cause anxiety in the community and are investigating to ensure this does not happen again,” said a notice from Shell’s safety team at around 3.30pm.

Shell said that at about 5:15 a.m., a device malfunctioned, resulting in burning and increased noise.

All safety precautions and standard regulatory protocols were followed and the issue was resolved within approximately two hours.
